Old Christmas Pudding

Where were you 46 years ago on Christmas Day? I was still single and eating Christmas dinner with my folks.

My mother made fruitcake, saved by the rum she pours into it. It never lasted beyond New Year’s Day, but a 46-year-old Christmas pudding recently unearthed during a house clearance in Great Britain has been declared “dry” but tasty by food experts – the brandy might have helped. The pudding was made the year of the moon landing.

If you are thinking about making one for this Christmas, it’s too late. British chefs recommend making your pudding in advance – 2 to 3 weeks, or at least overnight, but 46 years may be a stretch.

Here’s a recipe from the BBC (who also delivers Downton Abbey).
